Accident
(1967) In one of his most difficult but rewarding parts, Dirk gives a superbly subtle performance as Stephen, a repressed Oxford don caught in a mid-life crisis involving his infatuation with one of his students and his role as husband and father. With its terse Pinter script probing class tensions and age-old conflicts over sex and territory, the film was the British entry at the Venice Festival.
